A: You'll need to sign up with a host agency as an independent contractor. There are many host agencies, so be sure to do your research and ask questions about the monthly hosting fee, commission split, contract requirements, and if there are any sales quotas you would need to meet. A good host agency will also provide training, continuing education, and support resources. We did our research and are affiliated with Cornerstone Travel as our host agency.
A: Yes, anyone can become a travel agent with no prior experience. You simply sign up with a host agency and pay the monthly fee. Good agents complete available training and invest time in professional development.
A: It depends on the host agency. The agency we work with charges $30/month (80/20 split) or $40/month (90/10 split) with no initiation or setup fees. Commission splits industry-wide range from 50/50 to 90/10.
A: Yes. Perks include discounted and sometimes free agent sailings, FAM (familiarization) trips, supplier perks, and earning commission on your own travel bookings.
A: It's possible but not recommended right away. Building a client base takes time, and commissions aren't paid until after the client completes their trip. It's best to start as a side hustle, learn the ropes, and transition to full-time once you've built a stable income.
A: Yes. That is exactly what we do. You can work from anywhere with a reliable internet connection.
A: We receive $10–$15/month per referral plus 5–10% of your bookings (which does not reduce your own commission). This is available to all of the agents that are affiliated with our host agency.
A: No contract, no setup fees, and no obligation. You pay the monthly hosting fee ($30 or $40) and can cancel at any time with 30 days' notice.
A: No required additional costs. But there are some things that you might want to have for your business. This things might include your own custom domain name, your own website, and a branded email address. These can vary depending if you do things yourself or have a company do things for you. There are also some marketing things that you may want to consider, like business cards, some suppliers have social media programs that you can chose to use that you may want to use their paid versions. These are not required to get started.
A: Yes. You can join from anywhere in the world, but you operate as a US-based independent contractor under a US host agency, using their US credentials (CLIA, IATA, etc.).
A: Almost always yes, though commissions are lower than standard bookings. For example, a typical Carnival casino bookings pay approximately $55–$75 in commission. Each cruise line will have a different comission structure that you can take advantage of especially if you are booking your own casino offer.
A: No. Our host agency has no sales quotas and no pressure to recruit other agents.
A: No. We are independent travel agents and have no ownership stake in or sponsorship from the host agency.
A: Not one-on-one. The host agency provides recorded training, weekly/monthly group sessions, one-on-one virtual calls, and a very supportive Facebook community. The suppliers provide extensive training on all of their offerings.
A: These states require a Seller of Travel (SOT) registration. The host agency is licensed and bonded in all four states. Florida agents may also need to obtain and pay for their own SOT registration annually. If you live in one of these states, please check with your state to verify any requirements.
A: We actually work this way and you can work together too, but the host agency relationship is set up for one individual. One person must officially join, complete training, and be the agent of record. Commissions and tax forms are issued to that one person.
A. While may people do, that would be a questiont that we would not be able to answer for you. We would recomend asking an advisor like a lawyer that type of a question. However, it isn't required.
A: Finding clients is the hardest part. Our host agency does not provide any leads. Real growth comes from your own network, outreach, and social media presence. Agencies that offer strong leads typically offer much lower commission splits (sometimes 40/60).
A: The fee covers the CRM, E&O insurance, training, supplier partnerships, a personalized landing page, and administrative support - the full infrastructure needed to operate as a legitimate travel agent.
